Driven by a shared passion for M\u00e9tis heritage, we wanted to create a welcoming space where urban families could connect with the earth. Our journey led us to cultivate a network of knowledgeable culture keepers, each with a wealth of personal experience in M\u00e9tis art, cuisine, medicinal practices, lifeways, and traditions. We started as a couple of culture enthusiasts with a dream to:<\/b><\/p>

  • Encourage a reconnection to culture and nature within M\u00e9tis communities.<\/span><\/li>
  • Cultivate M\u00e9tis knowledge holders through collaboration, mentorship, and community.<\/span><\/li>
  • Be a responsibe steward of the land and role model for sustainable land connection.<\/span><\/li>
  • Develop a renewed interest in how plants are used for M\u00e9tis food, medicine, and tools.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  • Ensure M\u00e9tis culture will not be lost and develop resilience through cultural connection to defend the M\u00e9tis from future harmful impacts on our People<\/span><\/li>
  • Continue growing and learning as M\u00e9tis knowledge holders<\/span><\/li>
  • Balance the importance of physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, resilience, self-reliance, community reliance, and sovereignty through a resurgence of traditional practices.<\/span><\/li>
  • Continually develop a network of knowledge holders to connect people with all M\u00e9tis cultural knowledge.<\/span><\/li>
  • Cultivate a space for intergenerational knowledge sharing.<\/span><\/li>
  • Remove barriers so all M\u00e9tis people may access cultural teachings.<\/span><\/li>
  • Expand teachings to non-M\u00e9tis people to help with M\u00e9tis cultural knowledge among the general public.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

    Solution: Create our own community of M\u00e9tis culture teachers – with a land-base that is accessible and welcoming!<\/p>
